Finite DMRG to calculate bulk properties

Hello!

I’m studying bulk properties (such as magnetization, density, etc) in the 2D Hubbard model. I know that some people define a system with a sort of cylinder geometry (open boundary conditions in the long direction, and closed boundary conditions in the short direction).
If I want to avoid doing closed boundary conditions, and just do open boundary conditions in both directions, would that work better?

Thanks

It might help to take a look at the DMRG FAQs.
