DMRG/MPS Tutorials?

Hi,

I am looking for some help to get started with DMRG with iTensor. I am a graduate student working in comp-chem theory (mostly on things related to method development). I have been trying to get started with dmrg/mps and have been having hard time.

Can someone here point me to any pedagogic tutorials that can explain how and why DMRG works. I have some vague idea about initial formulation of DMRG in terms of the “sweep/trace” formalism. I have hard connecting that to the MPS ansatz.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Fracton,

I found this review article very useful: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0003491610001752

A couple online lectures: https://www.theorie.physik.uni-muenchen.de/activities/schools/archiv/asc_school_17/video_schollwoeck/index.html
Another intro: Tensor Network

For QChem applications you should have a look at Matt’s module: GitHub - mtfishman/ITensorChemistry.jl: Add-on package to ITensors.jl for chemistry.

I hope this helps.

In addition to Jan’s links, which are some of the best resources specific to the DMRG algorithm, you can also find a more extensive list of references and review articles here:

(@JanReimers : I didn’t know about those Schollwoeck videos. I’ll post them on the Tensor Network site since they look very good.)
