A naiove query on using_auto_fermion

Hi all,

I have been reading the tutorial at ITensor. So its clear if I do it manually for a few fermionic operators. But I have the following questions:

I have a naive question on the “using_auto_fermion” function.
Does this function automatically account for the Jordan-Wigner string when handling fermionic operators?

If not:
Are there functions that can do that?

Thanks,
Zahid.

The automatic fermion system is pretty experimental and not really meant for external use just yet.

Hi Zahid,
As Matt said, our system is not supported and recommended for users at this time.

Meanwhile, if you are interested to learn about the math and concepts used, this paper on Fermionic tensor network methods is a good introduction and reference. We may not follow all the exact details there in our code but the math is essentially the same. (I added this since you asked about if it’s like automatic J-W string. I think philosophically it is, but in practice it works very differently without any sort of notion of string. You can kind of think of the 1d ordering in the J-W formalism as turning into the ordering of indices on tensors. But the graded approach gives a way to switch the ordering.)

Dear all,

Thank you so much for the responses; this clarifies my doubts.

best,
Zahid.
